Statement of Principles

There is an energy, a light, that brings us all together. People have called it God, the Divine, the Source, Love — and some don't call it anything yet. We don't fight over the name.

That Light is in you. Not earned, not awarded — already there. Our work is to help you see it and share it.

Every tradition carries wisdom. We read the Bible, the Torah, the Qur'an, the Gita, the Sutras, and the words of the mystics and the poets, and we are better for all of them.

Doubt is part of faith, not the opposite of it. Questions are welcome in the room.

Prayer changes the one who prays. We pray, meditate, and sit in silence — and we believe it matters.

Love is the measure. If a belief makes you crueler, it isn't from the Light. If it makes you kinder, braver, and more honest, keep it.

Healing is holy. Body, mind, and spirit are one life, and caring for the sick is worship.

Faith is finished in service. What we believe shows up in what we do for the child, the stranger, and the family in need.

Lumen focuses on spirituality, not indoctrination. Nobody here will tell you what to think. Anyone can join — even if you don't believe in God, or not the same one.

The Minister's Guide

What ordination means. Ordination by Lumen Church recognizes you as a minister of the Light with authority to conduct worship, officiate ceremonies, offer spiritual counsel, and serve your community. It is a trust, not a title.

Officiating marriages. In Florida, ordained ministers may solemnize marriages (Fla. Stat. § 741.07). The couple obtains the license from any Florida county clerk; you perform the ceremony, complete the license (your name, title "Minister," the church's name and address, date and place), and return it to the clerk within 10 days. Rules differ by state and country — check the local law before every ceremony, and never officiate where you are not authorized.

Ceremonies. Weddings, vow renewals, baby blessings, house blessings, memorials, and prayer for healing. Prepare with the people you serve, honor their tradition or lack of one, and keep the ceremony about them.

Pastoral care. Listen more than you speak. Keep confidences. Know your limits: you are not a therapist, physician, or lawyer unless separately licensed — refer people to professionals when their need is beyond spiritual care, and always in an emergency.

Representing Lumen. Use the title "Minister, Lumen Church" with your credential number. Do not claim to speak for the church's Board, sign contracts on its behalf, or raise funds in its name without written authorization.

Your record. Your credential number is verifiable at thelumenchurch.com/verify. Keep your contact information current in your dashboard so clerks and couples can confirm you.

Code of Conduct for Ministers

As a minister of Lumen Church I will:

1. Treat every person with dignity, without regard to origin, language, belief, gender, orientation, or circumstance. 2. Never use my ministry to coerce, exploit, or harm anyone, and never engage in sexual, financial, or emotional exploitation of those I serve. 3. Obey the law in every place I minister, including marriage laws, and never misrepresent my credentials or authority. 4. Keep confidences, except where the law requires disclosure to prevent harm to a child or vulnerable person. 5. Refer people to medical, mental-health, and legal professionals when their need is beyond spiritual care. 6. Keep my own faith honest — I may doubt, question, and grow, and I will not pretend to a certainty I do not have. 7. Not use the church's name, logo, or credential for political campaigning, commercial endorsement, or fundraising without written authorization. 8. Accept that the Board of Directors may suspend or revoke a credential for conduct inconsistent with this Code, after notice and an opportunity to respond.

Terms of Ordination

1. Eligibility. You must be at least 18 years old and provide your true legal name and a working email address. 2. What you receive. A credential of ordination issued by Lumen Church, Inc., a Florida not-for-profit church, with a unique number, a downloadable certificate, and a public verification page. Ordination is free. Optional printed credentials and ministry supplies may be offered for a fee. 3. What ordination is not. It is not employment, a license to practice any regulated profession, a guarantee that any government or venue will accept your credential, or authority to act for the church. 4. Your responsibilities. Comply with the Code of Conduct and the law where you minister. Verify marriage requirements with the local clerk before every ceremony. 5. Revocation. The church may suspend or revoke a credential for misrepresentation, unlawful conduct, or violation of the Code of Conduct. Revoked credentials show as revoked on the verification page. 6. Records. We keep your name, contact details, the date and IP address of your agreement, and your credential record. We publish only your name, credential number, status, and issue date on the verification page. You may ask us to remove your profile from any public directory at any time. 7. No liability. Lumen Church is not responsible for ceremonies you perform or advice you give. You agree to hold the church harmless from claims arising from your ministry. 8. Governing law. Florida law governs these terms. Disputes are heard in Miami-Dade County, Florida. 9. Changes. We may update these terms; the version you agreed to is recorded with your credential.
